Blue Road – The Edna O’Brien Story is a portrait of Irish author Edna O’Brien, who passed away in July 2024, aged 93. Her personal journals, which were shared with writer and director Sinéad O’Shea, are read out in the film by Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley, alongside Gabriel Byrne, Walter Mosley and a cast of brilliant characters. This film made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2024 and was the opening night film at Doc NYC. It screened at the Seattle International Film Festival and won the Special Mention award at Palm Springs Film Festival and Best New Irish Feature at Cork Film Festival. It opened in Ireland on 31 January 2025 and in the UK on 18 April and is the most successful documentary at the Irish/UK box office so far for 2025. It is currently 100% of Rotten Tomatoes.
